Virtual Bloomsday Will Now Be Run September 18-27

Bloomsday Officials Extend Race Dates Due To Air Quality

Spokane, WA—Bloomsday officials announced today that Virtual Bloomsday participants may complete their race September 18th through the 27th.

Virtual Bloomsday is currently scheduled for September 18, 19 and 20. Hazardous air conditions from area wildfires, however, have made it dangerous to exercise outdoors both in the Spokane region and throughout the Pacific Northwest. Those conditions could continue through the weekend.

To allow Virtual Bloomsday participants to complete their 7.46 mile course in safe air conditions, Bloomsday race officials extended the participation time frame to Sunday, September 27.

“The safety and health of our participants has always been our top priority,” said Bloomsday Race Director Jon Neill. “While we would love to have a traditional weekend of Bloomsday running and walking, it is most important that the air be safe for outdoor exercise.”

Virtual Bloomsday is an event that allows 2020 Bloomsday entrants to earn their coveted race finisher shirt. Participants run or walk any 7.46-mile course of their choosing and then report their finish time on the Bloomsday website. Bloomsday will then mail the finisher shirt.

Virtual Bloomsday runners are urged to run or walk their selected course when air quality has returned to a healthy level.

Almost 25,000 people have signed up for Virtual Bloomsday.
