•Oldest ~ 66 yrs / Youngest ~ 13 yrs •11 Paralympians
•Largest women’s field since 1998 (8)

After a Gold and Bronze medal performance in Tokyo, Susannah Scaroni returned home to Illinois in her finest form, excited for the fall 2021 Road Race circuit. Fate would have it that she was struck by a car while on a training run. Her first race back was the formidable Boston

Marathon where she secured a second place finish. She is the class of the field at her “home” course here in Spokane. Joined by fellow Ilini Yeh Hoang, fresh off a 2nd at the New York Half, and Hannah Dederick who just completed her first Boston Marathon. Bloomsday Rookie Chelsea Stein is also one to watch. This is the largest women’s field since 1998.

23 year old Daniel Romanchuk has already cemented his wheelchair racing fortitude coming off a strong win in Boston just weeks ago. The 2x Tokyo Paralympic Medalist won Bloomsday in 2018, but didn’t return to defend his title due to injury. His 26:08 win in 2018 made him the 3rd fastest Male racer in Bloomsday History. The 2019 champion Aaron Pike has had an eventful year competing at 2 Paralympic Games as a wheelchair racer and a nordic / biathlon athlete. Keep an eye on Hermin Garic who has made great strides over the last two years under coach Santi Sanz. There is a great contingent of youth including four rookie men.

It is great to once again see the collegiate programs at the University of Arizona and the University of Illinois facing off at Bloomsday.

Cristian Torres will seek to defend his 2019 win against Cheney’s own Isaiah Rigo and the 12x Bloomsday Champ Santi Sanz.

Jim Hudec from Salmo BC, is competing in his 25th Bloomsday!
