Performers Have Until March 25th for a Spot on the Course
March 4, 2016—With the 40th running of the Lilac Bloomsday Run quickly approaching, organizers are looking for 40 (traditionally 30) entertainers in Spokane and surrounding communities to provide on-course entertainment along the 7.46-mile course. One of the unique features of Bloomsday is the great live entertainment found along the route. All forms of entertainment are welcome, from bands, to solo artists, to dancers! The deadline has been extended to March 25th to ensure that everyone has a chance to register to be a part of the fun on Sunday, May 1st.
“Having entertainment on the course is great fun for everyone. Runners and spectators alike will be ”Dancin’ in the Streets” said Course Entertainment Director Laurel Warner. “It’s part of what makes Bloomsday great.”
As in years past, there will be a contest after Bloomsday for participants to vote for their favorites, with the top three performers winning prize money of $500, $300 and $200. Winners are determined by entrants who log on to the Bloomsday website and vote after the race. Last year, Nixon Rodeo came away with the win. Not far behind Nixon Rodeo in the vote tally was two-time champion Tori Whitten, with the Angela Marie Project and Black Gingham deadlocked for third.
Performers who would like to showcase their talents at the 2016 Lilac Bloomsday Run can find an application form online at www.bloomsdayrun.org (click Race Information, On-Course Entertainment). Organizers will review applications and select performers by April 8th for the available spaces along the course. Performers must be officially registered in order to be eligible to win the 2016 Best Bloomsday Entertainer Award.
