March 14, 2018—Performers wishing to pad their resumes by boasting about playing in front of an audience of 50,000 have until Wednesday, March 21st to sign up to provide entertainment along the 7.46-mile Bloomsday course on Sunday, May 6th.
One of the unique features of Bloomsday is the great live entertainment found along the route. All forms of entertainment are welcome, from bands, to solo artists, to dancers. Performers who would like to showcase their talents at the 2018 Lilac Bloomsday Run can find an application form online at www.bloomsdayrun.org (click Race Information, On-Course Entertainment).
“Bloomsday participants really seem to enjoy the variety of performers along the route,” said Bloomsday Race Director Don Kardong. “They’re always wondering what they’re going to hear around the next corner.”
As in years past, there will be a contest after Bloomsday for participants to vote for their favorites, with the top three performers winning prize money of $500, $300 and $200. Winners are determined by entrants who log on to the Bloomsday website and vote after the race.
Last year rock group Nixon Rodeo, located at the base of Doomsday Hill, earned the title of “Best Bloomsday Entertainer” for the third straight year. Not far behind Nixon Rodeo in the vote tally were the Student Jazz Ensemble, located just after the turn off Government Way to Ft. George Wright, and the Angela Marie Project, situated a little farther along Ft. George Wright near Spokane Falls Community College.
Organizers will review applications and select performers by March 28th for the available spaces along the course. Performers must be officially registered in order to be eligible to win the 2018 Best Bloomsday Entertainer Award.
