SPOKANE, WA – Bloomsday is proud to announce it has received a $4,000 grant from the Hanger Foundation to support its continued commitment to accessibility and adaptive athletics. The timing of the grant is especially meaningful as Bloomsday celebrates ParaSport Spokane as its 2025 Charity of Choice—an organization that empowers youth and adults with physical disabilities through competitive and recreational sports.

This partnership is a natural fit. Bloomsday introduced a wheelchair division well before it became a standard part of road racing events with the first wheelchair racer joining in 1979. Elite and non-elite wheelchair athletes have been a visible and celebrated part of the Bloomsday tradition for decades, reflecting the event’s deep commitment to inclusion and athletic excellence.
The Hanger Foundation grant will help facilitate the Future Bloomies Race at the Riverfront Park Skate Ribbon on May 3, 2025—an exciting, family-friendly event focused on youth engagement and accessibility—as well as other programming that expands participation opportunities and support for athletes with physical challenges.
“We feel extremely grateful to have been chosen as a recipient of the Hanger Foundation funds and are excited to have this extra financial boost to the wheelchair division of Bloomsday,” said Bethany Lueck, Bloomsday director of sponsorship and communications.
Since its inception in 2015, the Hanger Foundation has contributed more than $4.7 million to nonprofit organizations that empower individuals with physical challenges. This is the (first, second, etc.) year that Bloomsday Run has received funding from the Hanger Foundation.
