March 26, 2014—The Lilac Bloomsday Association is presenting the first in a series of medals this year called “Bloomsday Scenes,” which will celebrate a variety of images along the route that are familiar to participants. The first medal in the series will commemorate the starting line on Riverside Avenue.
“There are many iconic scenes along the Bloomsday route that people enjoy seeing each year,” said Don Kardong, Bloomsday founder and race director. “Collecting the Bloomsday scenes medals will be something, along with the finisher shirt, to help them remember their Bloomsday experience.”
Many of Bloomsday’s 50,000 participants run or walk year after year. Most of these runners and walkers are not going to to win prize money or an age group award, but they can certainly collect a finisher medal to celebrate their participation.
Bloomsday has offered finisher medals the past three years, but the “Bloomsday Scenes” series is a step in a slightly different and more memorable direction. After launching the series this year with the starting line, organizers are planning to add scenes that include, among others, the infamous Doomsday Hill, the MeenachBridge, the Courthouse, and the Finish Line.
The first of the “Bloomsday Scenes” medals is available for purchase during online registration and at the Bloomsday souvenir booth at the Trade Show on Bloomsday weekend. The medal sells for $12.00, including tax.
This year’s Bloomsday Run is on Sunday, May 4th. Individual registration is currently open at www.bloomsdayrun.org, and printed entry forms are available throughout the region.
