Running Star to Visit Lincoln Heights & Wilson

May 2, 2012

Janet Cherobon-Bawcom, last year’s Bloomsday sixth-place female finisher, will be speaking at two school assemblies in Spokane on Thursday, May 3.

The Kenyan-born Cherobon-Bawcon, who resides in Rome, Georgia, will be speaking at Lincoln Heights Elementary at 10 a.m. and Wilson Elementary at 1:45 p.m.

Although she didn’t start running until she was 20 years old, Cherobon-Bawcom is a competitive distance runner who ran collegiately for Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas, where she won three National Championships in 2005. Last year, she won national titles in the 10k, 20k and 10 mile to win the overall championship in the USA Running Circuit.

In January, Cherobon-Bawcom finished fifth at the Olympic Trials Marathon, beating her personal record by nearly eight minutes to finish in two hours, 29 minutes and 45 seconds.

On Sunday, May 6, Cherobon-Bawcom will again compete in Bloomsday where she will try to beat her 2011 time of 40 minutes and 35 seconds.
