Corporate Cup Closes in Record 16 Hours

Feb 27, 2012

Last year it was three days, this year a mere 16 hours for Bloomsday’s popular Corporate Cup to reach its 250 team limit. Signup for Corporate Cup opened at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, February 6 and closed before the day was done.

“Corporate Cup just keeps filling up faster and faster each year,” said Lilac Bloomsday Association President Carol Hunter, who also directs the Corporate Cup. “Maybe team members are interested in having a chance to win an iPad, or maybe Corporate Cup has just developed a strong reputation for adding additional fun and excitement to Bloomsday weekend.”

Everyone signed up for Bloomsday through Sunday, February 12th, including individuals and Corporate Cup team members, had a chance of winning one of two iPads donated by Strong Solutions. As it turned out, those iPads went to two non-Corporate Cup entrants, Anita Vigil of Harrah, Washington, and James Love of Rocklin, California.

The Corporate Cup, which is sponsored by Orthopaedic Specialty Clinic, is a competition within Bloomsday in which businesses consisting of five team members compete amongst other businesses of similar size using a unique scoring system that matches team members against other runners in their age and gender division. Bloomsday promotes Corporate Cup participation as a great way to encourage fitness and healthy lifestyles among employees.

Along with race day competition, Corporate Cup teams compete to see who can come up with unique and amusing team names. Last year’s “Best Team Name” contest was won by the Gonzaga University English Department (“The Traipse of Wrath”).

This year’s Lilac Bloomsday Run is on Sunday, May 6. Individual registration is currently open at www.bloomsdayrun.org.
