April 1, 2013—Bloomsday’s Corporate Cup competition is more than just a battle of speed and endurance, it’s also a battle of wits. More specifically, before race day it’s a battle to see which team can come up with the best name. After much deliberation—and more than a few laughs—a group of Bloomsday sponsors and organizers have announced this year’s top team names.
From a pool of over 300 teams, 25 have been selected for their creativity and witty word play. From puns that reflect a company’s business to references to popular culture, the list extends from Career Path Services’ “Get Your Carear in Gear” to Workland and Witherspoon’s “Inglorious Barristers.”
“We felt that teams really stepped up the name game this year,” remarked Corporate Cup Director Carol Hunter. “We always get some great ones, but this year our panel of judges thought they might have even been a notch or two better than ever. As always, it was difficult to whittle down the pool to twenty-five finalists.”
The battle for the top team name is almost as competitive as the actual race itself, and the prizes are just as coveted. The first, second, and third place winners will be announced after Bloomsday in the Souvenir Results Booklet distributed by The Inlander, and the first place team will receive a plaque and will be honored guests at the annual awards luncheon. Last year’s winner was Spokane Fire Department’s “Feeling the Burn,” which beat out NewportHospital and Health Services’ “ICU at the Finish Line” (second place) and Inland Imaging Associates “X-Raycers” (third place).
Although registration is now closed for the Corporate Cup competition, runners still have time to register for Bloomsday. Mailed entry forms for the low $17 entry fee must be postmarked by midnight, April 16th, while online entrants have until Sunday, April 21st to do so. Late entries for the $35.00 fee will be accepted online from April 22rd through the 28th, and at the Bloomsday Trade Show the weekend of May 3-4. No entries will be accepted Sunday, May 5th.
