Breanna Abell nudges Dusty Klink; close battle in Best Bloomsday Entertainer contest

May 23, 2006

Spokane, WA—The votes are in and a new Bloomsday champion has been crowned. Country-pop soloist Breanna Abell nudged country music band Dusty Klink by three votes to win the third annual Best Bloomsday Entertainer contest. Classic rockers PF Flyer finished third.

“All the bands are great to work with and contribute a lot to Bloomsday,” said Bloomsday Board Member Dori Robertson, who organized the competition. “It’s fun to be able to report the crowd favorite, but I know our runners, joggers and walkers enjoy them all.”

Over twenty different groups or individual performers participated as official Bloomsday entertainers along the 7-1/2 mile route. Besides Breanna Abell, Dusty Klink and PF Flyer, performers who earned votes included A Time to Tumble (gymnastics and dance), Accordion Joe (accordion), The Andy Browning Band (alternative country), Bluegrass Conspiracy (bluegrass), If You’re Lucky (pop/punk), 4 Year Plan (punk/indie/rock), Gary Van Show (50’s, 60’s, Elvis, rock & country), Last Chance (original rock), Rhythm Envy (precision bucket drum corps), Saturday Night Confession (rock/Christian), Sisters of Selket (belly dancers), Small Town Nation (pop/punk), Stranglers of Bombay (classic rock), Vax Lavala (rock), Wayne and Marian’s Good Ol’ Stuff (oldies), and Yardsail (rock).

Over 800 votes were cast online in this year’s Best Bloomsday Entertainer contest. The top three vote getters will receive prize money of $500, $300, and $200, with additional cash rewards paid out through a random drawing to Bluegrass Conspiracy, Wayne and Marian’s Good Ol’ Stuff, Vax Lavala and Rhythm Envy.
