IT’S OFFICIALLY BLOOMSDAY WEEK
RUNNERS AND WALKERS CAN STILL REGISTER FOR $35
Spokane, WA—It’s Bloomsday Week and the countdown has officially begun for Bloomsday Race Day on Sunday, May 1. Bloomsday is back on course and the race will run through Spokane’s most scenic neighborhoods and finish on the city’s most recognizable landmark – – the Monroe Street bridge.
Here are some exciting things happening for the week and deadlines to be aware of.
Race Registration Entry Deadline – $35. Runners and walkers can continue to register for Bloomsday by registering online at www.bloomsdayrun.org. The entry fee is $35 through Thursday, April 28. Registration remains open through Saturday, April 30th. The Friday and Saturday entry fee will be $50.
Celebrity Starter. The official starter of Bloomsday 2022 will be Mayor Nadine Woodward. Mayor Woodward, elected as Spokane’s Mayor in 2019, will wave the starter flag and kick-off Bloomsday on race morning. The collaboration between the City of Spokane and Bloomsday has helped create one of the largest road races in the nation as well as the city’s signature spring event. “The City is so excited that events like Bloomsday are coming back,” said Mayor Woodward. “Our community gets to once again participate in the activities that make Spokane a great place to live.”
Decorating of the Riverfront Park runner statues. Lala Gerber began the tradition of dressing the runner statues with Bloomsday finisher shirts. The wardrobing of the steel runners has become one of the weekend’s most anticipated events while allowing fans to see Finisher shirts from the 80s and 90s.
Tradeshow and Runner Number Pick Up. Runners will pick-up their race numbers on Friday and Saturday of Bloomsday weekend at the Spokane Convention Center on Spokane Falls Boulevard. The hours of Runner Number Pick-Up will be Friday (April 29) 11:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday (April 30) 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Once runners pick up their race numbers, they then enter the tradeshow where the latest running apparel and shoes await including the best fitness, lifestyle and health products.
Lighting the City in Lilac. Perhaps more than any other race year, our community partners have illuminated the city in Lilac! The Steam Plant stacks are glowing lilac as is the Davenport Grand, Lincoln Building, Riverfront Park Pavillion, and Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center.
Go Bloomies. The spirit of Bloomsday is riding high and in some cases 30-40 feet off the ground! Go Bloomies banners have popped up at the Davenport Grand hotel, the Franz warehouse on Interstate 90, Spokane Eye Clinic, and the Dry Fly building near the Bloomsday start. It’s one more great way that area businesses have supported the race while enthusiastically cheering on our Bloomies.
To register for the race, go to www.bloomsdayrun.org. 2022 is the 46th running of Bloomsday – – a race frequently referred to as one of America’s classic road races. The race is a 12km run that is held each spring on the first Sunday in May.
