Bloomsday Anthem Singer to Sign Books Saturday

Apr 29, 2011

World-class masters runner John Keston—the man who sings the national anthem at the Bloomsday starting line each year—will be signing copies of his new book, Expressions of Aging, at the Bloomsday Trade Show. The signing will take place at the Bloomsday souvenir booth on Saturday, April 30th from 11:00-noon and again from 2:00 to 4:00.

In Expressions of Aging, Keston combines theatrical, running, and life anecdotes to make for a captivating read. This inspirational story explains how Keston, an ordinary health and fitness runner, was able to excel and ultimately be inducted into the USA Track & Field Masters Hall of Fame.

Keston, 86, is a singer, noted actor and a world-class age-group runner. He took up running at the age of 55 as a way of controlling mild hypertension, and has since experienced great success. Some of Keston’s running highlights include setting a world single age record in the Portland Marathon and setting a world and American record in his division of the mile run at the USA Masters Indoor Track and Field Championship at the age of 80.

In addition to signing copies of his new book, Keston will be delivering Bloomsday’s starting line performance for the tenth year in a row.

For those still wanting to enter the 35th running of Bloomsday, late entry will be available this weekend at the SpokaneConvention Center on Friday from 11:30 a.m. until 8:00 p.m., and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. Late entry is not available on Sunday. Late entry fee is $30.00.
