May 14, 2014—It was about halfway through the course that the Bloomsday crowd heard country/pop singer Tori Whitten, and the music seemed to strike a chord, as Whitten emerged victorious in post-race voting for Best Bloomsday Entertainer for the second straight year. Rockers Nixon Rodeo finished a strong second, and the rock/pop dance group the Angela Marie Project was third in the eleventh annual contest to choose the favorite performer along the 12-kilometer route.
The top three performers this year were all at locations toward the middle of the course. Whitten was just past four miles, Nixon Rodeo was at the base of Doomsday Hill, and the Angela Marie Project was on Ft. George Wright, just before Tori Whitten.
Whatever their preference in entertainment, Bloomsday runners, walkers and wheelers seemed to enjoy the performances, as they cast nearly a thousand votes this year for the nearly 30 performers on the course.
“We were fortunate to enjoy pleasant weather that put the entertainers and the Bloomsday crowd in a good mood,” said Bloomsday volunteer Laurel Warner, who organized the competition. “Everyone seemed to really enjoy the performances along the course.”
The bands scheduled along the route this year included (in order by location along the course) Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes Choir (Church Choir), Dave Dirt and His Clods (Rock & Roll), Black Gingham (Rock Band), Rylei Franks (Acoustic Rock), Good Ole Stuff (Oldies), Station 7(Alternative Rock/Instrumental Rock), Specialty Music (Variety), Johnny & The Moondogs (Rock & Roll/Country), Diesel Daisy and the Buckettes (Bucket Band), David Gordon (Rock/Alternative), Angela Marie Project (All-Original Rock/Pop/Dance), Tori Whitten (Soloist), Top Soil (Christian Metal), The Nixon Rodeo (Rock & Roll, Original/Covers/Alternative Modern Rock), Chris Ellenberger (Solo Singer/Entertainer), Summit View Swank (Rock & Roll), SpoCon (Science Fiction/Fantasy), Livey Beha (Singer/Song Writer), Tanner Azzinnaro (Solo Artist), Dawn of Life (Rock/Blues/Funk), Grass Menagerie Band (Bluegrass/Americana), Lefty's Uncle (Variety), Random Generation (Classic Rock), The Donner Party Band (Classic Rock/Blues), Anchor to Adonai (Christian Rock), Quarter Monkey (Rock), and Last Chance for Gas (70s Light/Christian Rock).
Tori Whitten will earn the top prize of $500 in this year’s Best Bloomsday Entertainer contest, while Nixon Rodeo and the Angela Marie Project will get the 2nd and 3rd place awards of $300 and $200. Additional cash rewards will be paid out through random drawings.
