The Lilac Bloomsday Association presents the 44th running of the Lilac Bloomsday Run.
Spokane, WA—Bloomsday runners, joggers and walkers will be able to enjoy 28 different performers along the 7.46-mile route this year, an increase of forty percent over the number of entertainers last year.
“It’s great to see how this facet of Bloomsday has grown over the last four years,” said Dori Robertson, Bloomsday’s Board member responsible for scheduling bands and other performers. “Every year our participants are more and more interested in which bands, dancers and other performers will be there on race day, and that interest is reflected in the increasing number of votes cast afterward in the Best Bloomsday Entertainer contest.”
This year’s on-course entertainment includes music to please a variety of tastes, including country & western, classic rock, oldies, blues, Christian, bluegrass, folk and punk. Entertainers also include belly dancers, a precision bucket drum corps, cheerleaders, Renaissance performers and Elvis impersonator “Accordion Joe,” who will be in his traditional location at the beginning of the first downhill on the course. Country soloist Breanna Abell, winner of last year’s Best Bloomsday Entertainer contest, will be back to defend her title, performing on Broadway a short distance from the finish line.
Bloomsday entrants will be able to vote for their favorite performers by logging on to www.bloomsdayrun.org after the race, and prizes of $500, $300, and $150 will be awarded to the winning entertainers.
Those wanting to take advantage of over seven miles of entertainment have until Sunday evening, April 22nd, to sign up online at www.bloomsdayrun.org for the low $14.00 entry fee. After that, late registration will be available online for $30.00 until April 29th. Late registration will also be available during normal Check-In hours at the new Convention Center on Friday, May 4th, from 11:30 a.m. until 8:00 p.m., and Saturday, May 5th from 9:00 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. Race entry is not available on Sunday, May 6.
